Journals: Middle School Love & War App Update

Ian Broyles and I have just released an update to our app, Journals: Middle School Love & War which allows readers to post a question or comment and receive an answer inside the app. We did this because I am nosy and Ian is clever. Exhibit A):

Q or C: Hi Louise, I am a big fan of your book. I finished it in half a day. Is this a true story? You are a great author. What made you think about this book? Did anyone inspire you to write this book? Who was it? You are one of my favorite authors? I have recommended this book to all my friends. I recommended this to my family too! Please get back to me! Weezy’s Response: Thank you so much for the nice words. The story is mostly true. I decided to write the kind of book that I loved to read as a child. After my father passed away a few years go I wanted to honor him by doing something with his journal. It felt like a good idea to incorporate my Dad’s war journal into a young adult novel. I was most inspired by the writing of Frank McCourt who so beautifully used a child’s voice in the telling of his story, Angela’s Ashes. I also love Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and the books of Judy Blume. As a kid, my favorite authors were Beverly Cleary and Carolyn Haywood. I hope your friends and family enjoy the book. Be well and happy and keep reading!
