Civil servants in Taiwan have become obsessed with the Facebook game, Happy Farm, prompting government officials to issue a statewide ban on Internet games in government offices.
The game involves players setting up farms in a fiercely competitive environment where points are won by growing crops and stealing the crops of rivals.
Citizens are outraged, accusing the government of meddling.
“It’s a step back for democracy,” said a message on an online forum.
Allow me to second that voice and add that any self respecting democracy is meaningless unless its civil servants are free to be completely unproductive.
